Firelit Wineglass

Description

Sitting by the campfire, enjoying some red-wine-from-a-box, I suddenly notice how intriguing the plastic wineglass looks when the firelight shines through it. I have my camera beside me, as always, so I whip it out and start trying to capture what I'm seeing. I make only a handful of attempts, hoping but not wholly caring whether the idea turns out. (If it does, I'm thinking, it might make a nice addition to my deviantART gallery!)

Days later, upon returning to civilization, I pore over the attempts and weed out the worst of them, deciding that only one is worth keeping. It has that awful purple colour that my digital camera tends to impart to images of fire, and the slight manipulations I try don't seem to do much for it. Disappointed, I let the image rest.

While catching up on news ([link]) today, the following words from ^superkev caught my eye: "My challenge is this: take and submit a photograph using an unusual light source." Cackling quietly to myself, I dipped into my collection and brought out this photo. With renewed vigor, I rotate and crop, and reduce the blue channel to zero, and somehow, this time, I'm actually satisfied with the results because it makes me feel like I'm back beside that fire, gazing through my wineglass in a half-intoxicated state of creative bliss.

Note 1: Full-view is pretty much necessary to see what's going on, I just realized.

Note 2: The wineglass is an odd one, with a raised swirly pattern encircling the cup; I'm not sure if that is a point of confusion or not. The vessel was a dollar-store purchase for the purpose of camping. I do normally prefer real glass, heh, and unornamented so the wine can be properly appreciated visually. But I was camping. I was drinking red wine from a box. Need I say more? :P
